Survey Says: Top 10 Issues
February 4, 2010
Here are the 10 top-ranked issues sited by questionnaire respondents, and parenthetically, what's being done by your Board right now about each:
- 98 votes - Avoiding increases in monthly assessments (note: minimal increase in 2009 and zero increase in 2010; strong expense controls are in full force and we're continually looking for more savings despite increasing third party costs)
- 94 votes - Avoiding special assessments (none are scheduled and we'd love to keep it that way)
- 61 votes - Condition of roofs (we have considerable roof reserves and want to spend them wisely. The Resources Task Force met with Advanced Weatherproofing Consultants on 2/3 to assess the availability of energy-conserving or -generating roofing materials on which subsidies or sponsorships may be available to save installation costs)
- 49 votes - Edison power transformer explosions (the City is behind us on this but can only exert influence on the provider; see the 1/28 Village Update on what you can do NOW to help get this addressed)
- 43 votes - Speeding (This is a basic safety matter putting children and others at risk. MBPD now patrols the Village periodically at the Board's request. After careful research, several speed cushions have been installed and additional rumble strips are planned once the current street work is completed. PLEASE REPORT the license number of speeders or stop sign violators, and when and where you observed them, to the management office. The responsible individuals will be called before the Board for fine hearings)
- 34 votes - Getting FIOS (this is being installed as we speak)
- 34 votes - Poor cell service (again, the City is behind us on this but can only exert influence on the providers. AT&T (16 respondents) and Verizon (11 respondents) users in particular were vocal about needing better service, and both have been contacted by the Board, but the providers are resistant. See the 1/22 Village Update re. latest from AT&T. The Board is pushing for change and has even offered to host cell towers if necessary)
- 31 votes - Termite problems (PLEASE REPORT these on the website's online Maintenance Request form so we can address them promptly. After meeting with our provider, a new, more knowledgeable and responsive termite representative has been assigned to the Village. You should not be living with termite problems)
- 30 votes - Skateboards/scooters (see comments on Wackenhut above and PLEASE REPORT observed violators, with pertinent details, to enable fine hearings)
- 29 votes - Pet droppings not picked up (this is basic cleanliness and respect for our Village, People! PLEASE REPORT observed violators, with pertinent details, to enable fine hearings).
Thanks to our 150+ respondents. Don't forget to REPORT observed violations of our rules and regulations. We can't act without written reports!
Lots more feedback and actions to come! - D. White
