FiOS Installation to Begin

December 18, 2009

The long-awaited revised plan from Verizon to install fiber optic service ("FiOS") throughout the Manhattan Village HOA property was received from and reviewed with its preparers this morning . This installation will ultimately bring a fiber optic communications capability to the utility compartments of each residence, plus the management office & guard villa (for communications) and main pool (for a potential wireless hotspot).

Installed throughout much of the rest of Manhattan Beach, FiOS is lauded as a reliable and extremely high speed source of telephone, Internet, TV signals. Connecting to and utilizing any or all of these services will be strictly at the discretion of individual homeowners, and will of course involve individual connection and monthly service costs borne by the homeowner if elected. But the cost of installing the FiOS grid itself throughout the Village is being borne entirely by Verizon, who via negotiation has also agreed to provide a Type II Slurry Seal for our streets following the installation, saving us the cost of resurfacing our streets in the near future.

A start date of January 11, 2010 has been established, but it is possible you will see areas being marked in advance of that date. The actual path of installation throughout our streets and courts will be planned logically and with a view toward manageable traffic flows. This plan will be communicated to homeowners as soon as it is available, but the earliest information will be made available via Village Updates such as this on on the website.

This will be a construction project, so noise and some level of of inconvenience is to be expected during allowed construction hours, which are prescribed by the City. Homeowner cooperation will be appreciated. Streets and courts will be affected, but efforts will be made to avoid inconveniencing homeowners or disrupting painting projects except as absolutely necessary. Interior access should not be required unless and until a homeowner elects to connect to the FiOS service once the new grid is in place.

Homeowners will be contacted by Verizon about establishing FiOS service as soon as it is available. There's nothing to sign up for until then. To learn more in the meantime, check out www.verizon.com/fios.
